A Journey from Brokenness to Restoration
“The detours of disobedience may delay you, but God’s grace will always reroute you home.”
Life has a way of teaching us lessons sometimes through joy, sometimes through the moments that humble us most.
This is a story of how God’s grace met me in my wandering, restored my hope, and reminded me that even when we take the long way around, His plans are still good.
Ignoring God’s GPS: A Lesson in Listening
I was baptised in 2014, but my heart still had a mind of its own. I wanted God’s blessing, but on my terms. I made choices that felt right in the moment but didn’t align with His will.
Even then, He was patient. I remember clearly the Holy Spirit whispering, “Go home.” Not once, but three times. And yet, I didn’t listen until I found myself in a situation that made His voice unmistakable.
When I discovered I was pregnant, those earlier warnings suddenly made sense. My plans had fallen apart, but His purpose had not.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” — Proverbs 3:5–6
Looking back, I can see how grace wove through every detail. Every detour was divine redirection.
“When God writes your story, even the plot twists lead to a perfect ending.”
Motherhood: God’s Divine Plot Twist
At first, I was terrified afraid of judgment, afraid of failing, and unsure how this could possibly fit into God’s plan.
But through the encouragement of my pastor and quiet moments with God, I began to see motherhood not as a mistake, but as a mission. My son wasn’t an interruption he was an invitation to deeper faith.
Then came a moment I’ll never forget. Sitting in a McDonald’s, I looked up to see a group of boys who looked exactly like my future son. It was as if God was saying, “See? I already have it planned.”
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord. — Jeremiah 29:11
A Toddler-Sized Reminder of God’s Love
My son became a living reflection of God’s tenderness, patient, joyful, and perfectly timed. Through him, I learned the rhythm of grace.
He has an uncanny way of knowing when I need comfort. Sometimes it’s just a small hand on my shoulder, other times it’s a laugh that breaks the heaviness of the day.
“No matter how broken we may feel, God’s grace is more powerful and more abundant than any hurt or mistake.”
Grace didn’t just restore my life — it reshaped it.
The Future: God’s Plans, Not Mine
For a long time, I wanted to control my future. Marriage wasn’t part of my plan — until God began to quietly rewrite that too.
In prayer, He whispered, “Your husband and more children are coming sooner than you think.”
It wasn’t pressure; it was peace. It reminded me that God doesn’t just redeem our past — He reclaims our future.
“Where sin increased, grace increased all the more.” — Romans 5:20
His grace didn’t just cover my mistakes. It changed my story.
From Brokenness to Blessing
If you’re in a place of regret, uncertainty, or waiting, know this: God’s grace meets you there. He’s not done with you. He’s rebuilding what was broken, redeeming what was lost, and restoring what once seemed ruined.
You may feel delayed, but you are not denied.
“Remember, God is always at work, even in the moments we don’t understand. Keep trusting, keep believing, and watch as He turns your mess into something beautiful.”
Devotional Reflection: Grace That Restores
Reflect:
Where might God be calling you back to Him, not to a place, but to His presence? Have you mistaken His redirection for rejection?
🕊️ Prayer:
“Lord, thank You for loving me through my detours. Teach me to recognise Your grace even in disappointment, and trust that Your plan always leads me home. In Jesus name, Amen.”
Takeaway:
God’s grace doesn’t simply repair it renews. He doesn’t just patch up what’s broken; He transforms it into something more beautiful than before. No matter how far you’ve gone, His love still reaches farther.
“The detours of disobedience may delay you, but His grace will always lead you home.”
